Zampoña is a wind instrument made up of several hollow canes (covered at an end) that produce sounds similar to those of a flute.
Zampoñas form a great and complex family, according to the sounds that they emanate, due to their different lengths.
Malta Zampoña is composed by ten superior canes and nine inferior ones, (although the number can vary) all united by a rustic mooring of cords. The canes degrade in thickness, which gives the instrument the peculiarity of its sound.
At the moment, and although their origins are pre-Columbian, zampoñas are representative instruments in the Bolivian folklore. Their melody is easily confused with the one of the altiplano (high plateau) wind: melancholic and beautiful.
